We assume that for me Robert Redford is Hubbell. I dreamed of watching too way we were , I hoped that handsome conservative stereotype of the American dream, forget all this shit and becomes perfect in love Kathy, my beloved Barbra Streisand, Curly is not handsome, but so combative and politically engaged.
But way we were could not end with a happy ending, so for me Robert Redford had yet to recover something to redeem myself. And with the character Gatsby is managed: it is beautiful embodying the elegant millionaire, the Great Gatsby, a character so mysterious, but impeccable, who played the wishful thinking deep Fitzgerald.
But first things first.
We are in the wonderful roaring twenties , the age of jazz, displays of luxury and splendor, the American myth of the first crash of '29.
The credits are there immediately enjoy that world, we are in New Jersey, is the summer of '22, the villas with swimming pool is filled each evening of glittering parties, the day instead of the polo fields are populated by players from the elegant beige linen suits, ladies with big hats and presenteeism flowers, but also of tiny dogs with collars of diamonds.
The narrator of this story is Nick, employee stock just moved from the west. Nick has just taken up residence next to villone Gatsby and opposite, across the lake, is the house of her cousin Daisy (Mia Farrow. I do not particularly like, then here's a little voice just irritating to Sandra Milo), which years earlier had had a brief but very intense love affair with Gatsby. He became rich by her, constantly organizing lavish parties just to be able to meet, still haunted by feelings of that month the past eight years together before, yet could not forget her despite her decision to marry another ("the rich girls do not marry poor young people", so Daisy is justified to Gatsby).
But with his charm and his chest woven sweaters, needless to say our hero manages to win her back, but their dream will not last long. (Oh my God what are sentimental at times). Bitter end, but then could not be otherwise, and a tribute to Sunset Blvd.
Council's vision of this film for cloudy afternoons of exaggerated sentimentality.
Oscar for best costumes, is a frenzy of fringe, sequins and feathers.
